I have always wanted to be consistent with exercise, but my previous approach has failed me. In the past, I pushed myself to go to the gym every day, on days when I’m tired, on days when I was not in the mood. And I quickly realize that this only cause me to burn out and quit within a month.
This time, I decide to take a different approach, to set a more realistic goal: to go to the gym at least 3-4 times a week, focusing on consistency rather than intensity.
Although it is definitely a better approach, I still struggle with motivation sometimes, and there are days when I do not feel like going to the gym at all. Repetitive routines of working out could be rather tiresome sometimes.
However, there are ways to combat this. On days where I do not go to the gym, I try my best to make sure that I do some other things to make up for it. Taking a walk outside, breathe in the fresh air. Although this is not going to the gym, what is vital to me is that I do not let that demotivation to continue carrying on.
Because once I got the mindset of “I skipped the gym yesterday, I might as well skip today too.” And sooner or later, you find yourself going to the gym less and less until you no longer go at all.
Therefore, what I have learned throughout this goal is that missing one day of gym will not ruin your goal completely, but it is the actions that you do afterwards that will help build a stronger mindset, which will ultimately help you be more consistent.
